PENSACOLA, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville remained in a tie for first in the Gulf South Conference, going on the road for a 72-66 victory over West Florida. The Chargers improve to 14-5 (9-4 GSC) with the victory, while UWF falls to 6-13 (2-11 GSC).

Three players scored in double figures for the Chargers as
Preston Herring scored a team-best 18, while
Seab Webster added 17 and
Taylor Chapman scored 11. Both Webster and Herring were strong on the glass as well as Webster grabbed a team-high eight boards with Herring collecting seven on the night.

The Chargers shot 50.0 percent in the first half – including a 6-for-15 showing from beyond the arc – and the team built up a 14-point advantage at the half to lead 43-29 with the trio of Chapman, Herring and Webster all scoring nine in the period.

UAH remained in front through the second half, but West Florida would narrow the gap to just four at the 1:17 mark and again with just under 20 seconds left, but
Greg Gardner and Herring were perfect from the charity stripe to help UAH seal the victory.

For the contest, UAH shot 45.0 percent while hitting nine 3-pointers, and West Florida connected on 44.6 percent of its attempts while also holding a 41-30 edge on the glass.

The Chargers committed just seven turnovers in the contest, a strong improvement after giving it away 13 times in the first half alone on Thursday night against Valdosta State, and the team outscored the hosts 17-8 in points off turnovers after forcing UWF into 12 miscues.

UAH also held a 32-26 advantage in points in the paint.

Jason Laatsch led West Florida with 20 points.

UAH returns to action on Thursday night when the team welcomes West Georgia to Kelly Court at Spragins Hall for a 7:30 contest. The Chargers were 79-62 victors earlier this season in Carrollton.
