HUNTSVILLE | Maintaining its position atop the Gulf South Conference standings, The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team earned a 2-1 win over visiting Spring Hill on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park. The Chargers move to 9-4-0 (7-1-0 GSC) with the triumph, while SHC falls to 2-10-0 (0-6-0 GSC).

UAH has now won 14 straight in the Rocket City. Each of the top three teams in the conference standings won again on Sunday, keeping the Chargers two points ahead of West Alabama and five points in front of Lee (though UAH has played two more league games than the Flames).

Jordan Wright was the star for the Chargers on this day, scoring twice more to move his season goal total to 13 which ranks second in the GSC.

Wright's first score came in just the 12th minute as Guy Clennett assisted on the junior's score, and that 1-0 lead would hold through the rest of the first 45 minutes.

It was then a beautiful cross from Leo De Smedt in the 55th minute of the contest that would lead to Wright's second as he headed it in from just in front of the Spring Hill goal to produce what would ultimately be the game-winning score as the Badgers would tally just four minutes later in the 59th to narrow the gap to 2-1.

The UAH defense then held SHC without another shot on target the rest of the contest to preserve the victory.

With Wright's eight leading the way, the Chargers outshot Spring Hill 18-4 on the afternoon, and the hosts also held an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal as Wright found the target a team-best four times.

The Chargers earned 10 corners in the affair, one more than the nine that Spring Hill took.

UAH will now step out of conference play, welcoming Montevallo to Charger Park on Wednesday evening. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
