HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with visiting Christian Brothers on Friday evening at Charger Park, moving to 4-4-2 (1-3-1 Gulf South Conference) on the season. The visiting Bucs move to 6-2-1 (3-1-1 GSC).
Â
The Chargers dominated the first half, outshooting Christian Brothers 12-3 in the period, and it paid off for the home side as UAH took a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute.
Â
Sydnie Fiocca broke in alone on the CBU keeper and had an excellent on goal saved, but the rebound caromed to the feet of
Isabel Shanteau who rocketed it into the back of the net to provide the Chargers with the lead while giving the senior her fifth score of the season.
Â
The second half saw the visitors control play, nearly reversing the shots situation from the opening 45 minutes by holding an 11-2 advantage, and that resulted in the Bucs leveling the match at 1-1 in the 72nd minute on Ingrid Mello's goal.
Â
That score forced extra time, and though CBU would hold a 5-3 advantage in the two periods, it was UAH who had the best attempt at ending the game on a golden goal as
Kayla Dowler hit the crossbar in the 108th minute.
Â
For the contest, Christian Brothers held a 19-17 edge in total shots, but UAH led 7-5 in shots on goal. The visitors also owned a 10-6 edge in corners.
