Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Fiocca, Breaux Help Lead Chargers to Sunday Victory

HUNTSVILLE | Running its current unbeaten streak to three games, The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team held on for a 1-0 win over visiting Union on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park. The Chargers improve to 5-4-2 (2-3-1 Gulf South Conference) with the victory, while UU falls to 2-8-0 (2-2-0 GSC).

The lone goal that the home side would need in the contest came late in the first half when Sydnie Fiocca broke in alone in front of the Union keeper in the 33rd minute, and the senior then pushed it to far post and in for the eventual game-winning goal. For Fiocca, the goal marks her third of the season.

In the contest, Union held a 24-7 advantage in shots and a 7-4 margin in shots on goal, but most of the attempts were from long-range and not that dangerous. However, UAH keeper Larae Breaux did have to rise to a tough challenge late in the contest, leaping to punch a ball over the crossbar in the 87th minute for one of her seven saves.

The Bulldogs also held a 6-0 advantage in corners.

The Chargers will return to action next weekend looking to build upon their recent hot stretch, traveling to Shorter on Friday evening with kick-off in Rome scheduled for 4 p.m. CDT.
