Shorter Knocks Off UAH 3-0 in GSC Action

ROME, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team fell at host Shorter on Friday, dropping a 3-0 decision in conference action. The Chargers slip to 5-5-2 (2-4-1 Gulf South Conference) with the setback, while Shorters improves to 5-6-0 (2-4-0 GSC).

The loss snaps what had been a three-game unbeaten streak for the Chargers, and the contest marks only the third time this season that UAH has been held without a score.

The two sides played to a scoreless first half, but the hosts would score three times in the second 45 minutes to capture the victory.

Opening the scoring in the 48th minute was Jen Rogers, while Tabea Kirchner scored in the 64th followed by a successful penalty taken by Rogers in the 78th to cap off a five-point day for her as she also assisted on the Kirchner score.

In the loss, sophomore keeper Larae Breaux added to her GSC-best save total, registering seven saves to move to 77 on the season.

Shorter doubled up the Chargers in shots with a 20-10 edge and in shots on goal with a 10-5 margin, and the hosts also owned a 5-1 advantage in corners.

The Chargers will aim to bounce back from the setback on Sunday when the team continues GSC play on the road at Lee in Cleveland, Tennessee. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. CDT.
