HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team remained perfect in conference play, picking up a 1-0 victory over visiting Union on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park. Improving to 6-3 (3-0 Gulf South Conference) is UAH, while Union slips to 4-6 (2-2 GSC).
Â
With West Alabama defeating Christian Brothers on Sunday, both UAH and UWA remain tied atop the GSC table at 4-0 with 12 points. The win marks UAH's 12th straight victory at Charger Park with the team's last loss at home coming in October of the 2013 season, and it also represents fifth straight overall.
Â
The game's only marker would come in the 53rd minute as
Alex Martinez played a perfect ball to
Daniel Buchanan, and the sophomore from Huntsville would bury it with authority to ultimately lift the Chargers past the visitors.
Â
Each of Buchanan's three career goals has been game-winners for UAH in 1-0 decisions.
Â
UAH controlled play through much of the contest as keeper
Michael Winstone was only forced to make one save in earning the shutout, and his teammates outshot Union by an 11-5 mark including a 5-1 edge in shots that were on target. The Chargers also held a 4-3 edge in corners.
Â
Hermann Bjornsson had a team-best four shots including two that were on goal, and Buchanan also placed a pair of attempts on frame.
Â
UAH will return to action on Friday when GSC action continues for the Chargers on the road with a 6:30 p.m. CDT contest at Shorter.
