Kelly Court at Spragins Hall WEEK OF SWEEPS: The Chargers improved to 13-3 overall and 4-3 within the GSC following 3-0 victories over rival North Alabama and Mississippi College over the weekend. UAH swung a collective .226 over six sets, while averaging 13.16 digs per frame as a team.
GSC UPDATE: The conference is currently led by Valdosta State and No. 21 West Florida, who both have 7-0 marks in league play thus far. Following the pair of leaders, North Alabama sits in third with a 7-1 record, followed by Shorter in fourth at 5-3 and UAH in fifth with a 4-3 record in the GSC.
HOME COOKING: The Blue and White are 7-1 at home so far this season, after beginning the home slate on a six-game win streak. The Chargers are 23-11 at home under the direction of third-year head coach
Keith Giboney.
DEFENSIVE POSTURE: UAH is ranked fourth within the GSC in digs per set (15.68) and blocks per set (1.95) so far this season, led by
Haley Hop with 4.02 digs per set and
Haley Snyder with 1.02 blocks per set.
TIGERS PROFILE: West Alabama enters the week with a 5-9 record and 3-4 within the Gulf South Conference, following a loss to Shorter and a win over Lee this past week. The UWA attack is led by Briana Sandifer, Morgan Ray and Yanesha Johnson who have each totaled 100 kills or more, while Kimberly Hernandez anchors the defense with a team-high 218 digs.
ARGONAUTS PROFILE: Nationally-ranked West Florida begins the week's slate with a 14-2 overall record and a 7-0 record in conference play, as the squad is currently riding a 10-game win streak that includes GSC wins over CBU and Union last week. UWF is paced by Autumn Duyn on offense with 174 kills, with Tori Martella registering a team-best 256 digs.
BLAZERS PROFILE: Valdosta State has opened the season on a 12-game win streak as the Blazers own a 12-0 overall record and a 7-0 mark in league play so far in 2015, after most recently defeating CBU and Union this past week. Lea Jaklen leads the VSU attack with 140 kills, while the defense is paced by Natalia Campos' 221 digs.
