PENSACOLA, Fla. | The No. 19 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team started Gulf South Conference play with a win on Wednesday afternoon, defeating host West Florida 74-65 on the road. UAH improves to 4-2 (1-0 GSC) with the victory, while UWF drops to 1-3 (0-1 GSC).

The win marks the 11th straight GSC opener victory for UAH.

Seab Webster had his best performance of the season, going 8-for-12 from the field and knocking down three 3-pointers en route to scoring 25 while also grabbing six rebounds.

The 25-point performance also represents the best total by a Charger yet this year.

UAH led throughout much of the contest, building up as much as a 12-point lead in the opening 20 minutes before taking a 41-33 advantage into the locker room at the half, but West Florida battled in the second half and narrowed the gap to as little as three on several occasions.

The visitors, however, would push the lead back out to as many as 13 down the stretch, with Webster scoring 10 and
Chayse Elliott scoring eight in the second half to push UAH to the win.

For the contest, the Chargers shot 41.9 percent from the field while limiting the Argos – who were paced by Austin Somerfield's double-double of 19 points and 17 rebounds – to a shooting mark of 37.5 percent.

West Florida held a slim edge on the glass, grabbing 43 rebounds to UAH's 42.

Greg Gardner led the Chargers in rebounding as he collected 10.

A 30-22 difference allowed UAH to outscore the opponent in the paint once again, and the visitors also received a strong performance from the bench as UAH's reserves scored 27 while West Florida had just 13 bench points.

Justin Ward's nine off the bench led UAH.

Conference play continues for the Chargers on Saturday as the team travels to Valdosta State for the final road game in the calendar year. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. CST in Georgia.
