ResultsNASHVILLE, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville track and field programs traveled to the Ed Temple Classic hosted by Tennessee State on Sunday morning and came away with a total of five school records and 23 personal records set between the two teams.
Katelin Barber continued to run well following a national-qualifying time in the season opener in the Emory Invitational last weekend. Barber came in the 55-meter dash at 7.19, which was good for fourth among all competitors at the Classic.
Alisia Matthews set a pair of personal records in both the shot put and weight throw on Sunday, posting a 11.65m shot put length and 14.15m weight throw. Matthews' weight-throw distance resets a program record that she set at 13.23m on Feb. 10, 2003.Â
Ackiesha Burnett came in first in non-Division I runner and all competitors with a time of 8.09 in 55-meter hurdles, which breaks the program record of 8.22 set by Shana Levett on Feb. 17, 2007.Â
On the men's side,
Adrian Goddard came in third in the 200-meter – good for sixth amongst Division I runners – and then had a personal record time of 50.06 set in the 400-meter. Goddard clocked in first among all competitors in the 400-meter.
Wil Lester was the leading thrower for UAH, posting team-high scores in the shot put (11.81m) and weight throw (13.57m). Lester's weight throw was a personal best amd a program record, breaking the previous mark of 12.73m by Adam Osborn on Feb. 26, 2011.
Alex May also continued to succeed at the outset of the season, as the sophomore registered a personal record and program record in the triple jump at 14.69m. The previous school record for the triple jump was set by Alex Buchanan at 14.05m on Feb. 25, 2012. May's mark ranks 14th in the nation.
Nanette Weitzman also set a program record and personal best height of 3.05m in the pole vault, which tops the previous record set by Tammy Freeman on Feb. 28, 2004.The Chargers will look ahead to the East Tennessee State Invite on Friday in Johnson City, Tennessee.
