Men's Track & Field Claims Fifth GSC Outdoor Championship, Women Place Second

CLEVELAND, Tenn. | The UAH men's track & field team captured the program's fifth Gulf South Conference Outdoor Championship and first since 2022 on Saturday on the campus of Lee University while the Chargers women's team earned second overall.

Malik Turner earned the Most Outstanding Field Performer Award and Most Outstanding Overall Performer Award for his first place finishes in the high jump and long jump along with a second-place finish in the triple jump.

Overall, UAH garnered a combined total of 17 All-GSC performances on the men's side and 13 from the women's competition. The Charger men featured eight First Team All-GSC honors, while the UAH women's squad recorded four First Team All-GSC performances.

The UAH men's First Team All-GSC performances included Jaiden Young (400m), Wes Ellison (800m), Sam Wilhelm (5000m), Malik Turner (high jump, long jump), Kian Johns (pole vault), and Julius Williams (triple jump) in addition to the Chargers 4x100m relay team of Collin Henderson, Chris Thomas, Tommy Rodriguez, and Elijah Drake.

The Blue & White's Second Team All-GSC performers included Chris Thomas (200m), Nathan Knox (1500m, 3000m steeple), Chris Ferguson (pole vault), Malik Turner (triple jump), Rhett McDonald (hammer throw), and Adolfo Mireles (decathlon) along with the 4x400 meter relay team of Eon Morris, Hagen Williams, Alijah Abram, and Ben Dale.

On the women's side, the Chargers boasted First Team All-GSC honors by Jordyn Dortch (200m) and Aspen Arrowsmith (javelin throw), along with the 4x100 meter relay team of Deja Hines, Summer Sutherlin, Keziah Mickler, and Dortch and the 4x400 meter relay team of Summer Sutherlin, Aniya Johnson, Grace Hampel, and Dortch.

UAH also benefited from Second Team All-GSC performances from Hope Collins (heptathlon), Hailey Smith (hammer throw), Kyla Rohling (triple jump), Jadlyn Debardlabon (long jump), Aniya Johnson (high jump), Tamsyn Gibbs (3000m steeple), Lucy Barker (10,000m), Summer Sutherlin (400m), and Jordyn Dortch (100m).

The Chargers look ahead to their final tune-up of the 2025 outdoor season on May 10 at the Lee Last Chance Qualifier, ahead of the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in Pueblo, Colorado, from May 22-24.
