MONTEVALLO, Ala. | The UAH men's and women's track & field teams each finished as runner-up at the 2026 Gulf South Conference Outdoor Championships on Friday on the campus of the University of Montevallo.
Hekla Magnusdottir earned the Most Outstanding Freshman Performer Award for her first-place finish in the heptathlon, along with a third-place finish in the shot put, while Malik Turner was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer after winning the high jump and long jump, in addition to a second-place finish in the triple jump.
UAH also saw record-breaking performances, as Cooper Garrett (JT), Amiah Murry (400m), and the women's 4x400m relay team each set new Gulf South Conference records.
Overall, UAH garnered a combined total of 11 All-GSC performances on the men's side and 12 from the women's side. The men featured four First Team All-GSC honors, while the women recorded eight.
The UAH men's First Team All-GSC performers were Jaiden Young (400m), Malik Turner (HJ, LJ), and Julius Williams (TJ).
The Chargers' Second Team All-GSC performers included Ahmed Ibrahim (5000m, 1500m), Tommy Rodriguez (400m hurdles), Griffin Cooper (HJ), Ben Rouse (PV), Malik Turner (TJ), along with the 4x400m relay team.
On the women's side, the Chargers earned First Team All-GSC honors by Amiah Murry (200m, 400m), Aniya Johnson (HJ), Jadlyn Debardlabon (LJ), Hailey Smith (HT), Cooper Garrett (JT), and Hekla Magnusdottir (HEPT), along with the 4x100m relay team.
The Chargers' Second Team All-GSC performers included Deja Hines (200m), Anna Katherine Hopkins (800m), A'Cynthia Brown (SP), and Caroline Sanders (HEPT).
UAH will compete on May 9 at the Lee Last Chance Qualifier in Cleveland, Tennessee, before the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in Emporia, Kansas, from May 21–23.
