FLORENCE, Ala. | In a preview of a postseason match-up to take place just three days from Saturday, North Alabama defeated the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team 83-67 on the regular season's final day. The Chargers end the regular season at 20-8 (15-7 Gulf South Conference), while UNA finishes at 13-15 (10-12 GSC).

The two teams will meet again on Tuesday at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on the UAH campus in a quarterfinal contest of the 2015 GSC Men's Basketball Championships. The Chargers are the top seed, while UNA will serve as the eighth-seed.

Taylor Chapman scored 12 to pace the Chargers, and he was joined in double figures by
Kip Owens and
Seab Webster who scored 11. Adding 10 to round out UAH's double-figure scorers was
Ronnie Mack.

Nathan Spehr and Marcus Landry led the way for the Lions on the day, scoring 23 and 17, respectively.

The hosts led comfortably throughout the contest, outshooting UAH 48.6 percent to 33.3 percent in the first half en route to building up a 46-29 advantage at the half. In the opening period, Spehr – who was honored prior to the contest as one UNA's seniors – hit three 3-pointers and scored 15 to help the Lions open the wide margin.

UNA then opened the second half by effectively sealing the contest with a 13-2 run over the first four minutes, establishing what would be its largest lead of the night at 28 with a 51-39 advantage.

For the contest, North Alabama connected on 46.0 percent of its attempts from the floor while UAH shot 39.4 percent, and the Lions held a 47-30 rebounding advantage as Landry finished the contest with a double-double as he grabbed a game-best 13 rebounds.

With Chapman and Owens leading the way, UAH's bench outscored UNA's 36-6 for the game, while the visitors also held a 14-8 advantage in points off turnovers.
