Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

UAH's Season Ends with Loss at South Regional

LAKELAND, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team saw its season come to a close on Saturday afternoon, falling 80-62 to Lynn in the opening round of the 2015 NCAA Division II South Regional at Florida Southern. The Chargers end the year at 23-9, while Lynn advances at 20-9.

For the fifth time in six seasons, UAH ends the year in single digits in losses.

Lynn's high-pressure defense forced UAH to turn the ball over 18 times – a number that matches the GSC tournament champion's highest of the year – and the Fighting Knights converted those miscues into 24 points.

Leading the winners on the day was Aaron Harrison who scored 23, while Preston Herring had 14 points and 12 rebounds as the junior transfer wrapped up his first season in Huntsville with his seventh double-double of the year.

Joining Herring in double figures for UAH were Troy Saxton and Seab Webster who both scored 12 in the game.

After trailing 52-39 at the half, the Chargers quickly found themselves in a 17-point hole just a minute and a half into the second half when Lynn scored the first four points of the period to go in front 56-39, but UAH ripped off an 8-0 run to narrow the gap back within single digits at 56-47 with 15:50 left in the contest.

After weathering the UAH push that eventually narrowed the margin to just seven, the Fighting Knights were able to prevent the Chargers from cutting the deficit further, leading by as many as 21 in the closing moments of the contest.

For the contest, Lynn connected on 42.6 percent of its attempts from the floor while the Chargers shot 35.7 percent overall after hitting 50.0 percent in the first half.

Though Herring grabbed a game-high with his 12, the Fighting Knights edged UAH on the glass by a 40-39 margin.

The game marked the final one in the careers of Ronnie Mack and Taylor Chapman, and the Chargers will return four of their five starters heading into the 2015-16 season.
