No. 11 UAH Cruises to Sweep at CBU Saturday

MEMPHIS | The 11th-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team used an offensive outburst to sweep host Christian Brothers on Saturday, winning 9-1 in six innings in the first game before needing just five innings for a 12-1 win in the nightcap.

UAH improves to 31-9 (18-6 Gulf South Conference), while CBU slips to 9-34 (2-21 GSC). The two teams will wrap up the series on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for noon.

Especially impressive on the day was Tyler Harrison who was a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate with two doubles en route to driving in three runs, and the sophomore also scored four times after drawing a pair of walks. For good measure, she also picked up the complete game victory in the circle in the day's first game, scattering five hits while striking out five on her way to moving to 9-3 on the season.

The Chargers set the tone for the day when the first four batters recorded hits to start the first game, and back-to-back doubles from Michal Robertson and Kaitlyn Bannister quickly made it a 2-0 game before Harrison and later Victoria Crumpton drove in runs to make it a 4-0 lead after the first half inning.

Helping the team pound out 13 hits, Harrison led the way with four hits in the game, while Robertson and Bannister were joined by Savannah Smith in notching a pair of hits in the contest.

Harrison drove in three runs, Bannister and Smith drove in a pair, and Robertson and Crumpton picked up the other RBI for the Chargers who were able to end the game early with another four-run inning in the sixth after also pushing across a run in the third.

In the nightcap, UAH trailed 1-0 early after CBU scored in the bottom half of the first, but a five-run third that was sparked by two-run homer for Bannister helped the Chargers take the lead for good in the contest.

The homer marked the team-best 11th of the year for Bannister, and with four more RBI on the day, she moved her GSC-leading total to 54.

UAH followed up the five-run third with a six-run fourth before adding a single run in the fifth to produce the 12-1 final.

Bannister had three of UAH's 12 hits in the contest, while Abby Roberts, Robertson and Harrison all had a two-hit game.

Roberts drove in a team-high four runs in the contest, joining Bannister and Emily Glover in knocking in multiple runs as Bannister and Glover both had a pair.

Glover also picked up the win in the circle, going the distance while earning her seventh win of the season. She struck out one and gave up just three hits while allowing just the one run.
