No. 6 UAH Secures Sweep with 17-0 Rout of CBU

MEMPHIS | The No. 6 University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team completed the Gulf South Conference series sweep on Sunday afternoon at Joe Nadicksbernd Field by a final score of 17-0. UAH improves to 32-6-1 (18-6-1 GSC), while CBU slips to 9-21 (4-16 GSC).

The Chargers offense has notched 10 or more runs on 19 occasions this season, while also recording 15-plus runs seven times. A total of 10 different regulars are batting above .300 this season for fifth-year head coach Hunter Royer.

Tyler Howell took to the hill for the series finale, allowing one hit over 7.0 shutout innings with a walk and five strikeouts. The senior left-hander improved to an even 3-3 on the season with the win.

UAH was quickly on the board on Sunday, as senior Chandler Brock clubbed a two-run homer down the left-field line in the top of the first. Not to be outdone, fellow senior Colton Simbeck registered a two-run blast to left-center in the top of the fifth to give the Chargers a 4-0 advantage.

The Chargers offense then erupted for an eight-run sixth and a five-run rally in the seventh en route to a 17-0 win in seven innings over the Bucs.

The Blue and White posted 20 hits overall on Sunday, including seven players with multi-hit performances. Senior Cody Burton paced the offense going 4-for-5 with two runs scored, while Michael Fox led the team with five RBI and hit his third homer of the season

UAH batted .478 (57-for-119) for the weekend at Christian Brothers.

The Chargers have four games in the coming week, beginning with a midweek contest at Montevallo on Tuesday before heading home to Charger Park for the final homestand of the season against GSC opponent Union on Saturday and Sunday.
