LIVINGSTON, Ala. | The No. 5 University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team lost the regular season finale to Gulf South Conference opponent No. 10 West Alabama by a final score of 11-1 in seven innings on Monday afternoon. UAH ends the regular season at 35-9-1 (21-9-1 GSC), while UWA improves to 35-9 (25-6 GSC).

The Blue and White look ahead to the 2015 GSC Baseball Tournament hosted by West Alabama from May 2-5 at Tartt Field in Livingston, Alabama. The second-seeded and reigning GSC Tournament champion Chargers will play in the opening game of the double-elimination tournament against the fifth-seeded Valdosta State Blazers on Saturday, May 2 at noon.

UAH went on the board first on Monday, as Cody Burton was able to score on a wild pitch after leading off the inning with a single to left field.

Spotted with an early 1-0 lead, starting pitcher Tyler Howell hurled two scoreless innings to kick-off his 10th outing of the season. However, the southpaw allowed a solo homer to Mitch Holgate in the third to knot the contest 1-1.

The West Alabama offense then added two runs in the second on a Tanner Rainey two-RBI single to center, before erupting for four runs in the fifth to go ahead by 7-1. Sophomore Logan Crook relieved Howell amidst the rally and was tagged with two unearned runs.

The Tigers went on to record one run in the sixth and then three more in the seventh to complete the 11-1, seven-inning win on Monday afternoon. UAH relievers Brent Elder, Charlie Weaver and Heath McRae combined for 1.1 innings with five hits allowed and four earned runs.

Howell was handed the loss and falls to 4-4 on the season. The senior finished the contest with 4.0 innings, eight hits, five runs, two walks and three strikeouts.
