HUNTSVILLE |
Tyler Harrison tossed the program's 24th no-hitter, and the 11th-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team swept visiting Miles at Charger Park on Thursday, winning 11-0 in five innings before taking an 8-3 victory in the nightcap. UAH improves to 29-9, while Miles slips to 4-24.
Â
Harrison faced just one batter over the minimum in the opening game of the doubleheader, striking out five in the five innings with the sophomore's most impressive frame coming in the top of the second when she struck out two of the batters she faced.
Â
For Harrison, the no-hitter is the second of her career as she also threw the last UAH no-hitter last year on Feb. 27.
Â
The Chargers pounded out 12 hits in the contest with both
Michal Robertson and
Kaitlyn Bannister recording a pair, and that duo also led UAH in RBI in the contest as Robertson drove in three while Bannister knocked in a pair of runs in the rout.
Â
Three pinch hitters joined
Victoria Frith in knocking in a run each with
Savannah Smith,
Morgan Hopkins and
Kristen Chapman all recording an RBI each.
Â
UAH's big inning in the game came in the third when the team sent 12 batters to the plate en route to scoring seven times.
Â
In the nightcap, the Gulf South Conference leader in RBI added three more as Bannister moved her season total to 50, and she ended the game with three hits , again matched by Robertson – who also knocked in a pair of runs – to lead the team in the game.
Â
The Chargers outhit Miles 12-6 in the contest, and Smith and Hopkins also recorded multi-hit performances with a pair each.
Â
After Miles grabbed an early 1-0 lead, the Chargers answered with a run in the first before scoring three times in the second, and though the visitors would close the gap to just one at 4-3 in the fifth, the hosts scored three more in the bottom half of the inning and added another in the sixth to create the 8-3 final.
Â
Emily Glover went the distance in the circle for UAH, scattering the six hits while striking out six.
Â
The Chargers will return to action on Saturday when the team jumps back into conference play with a road trip to Christian Brothers.
