WINTER PARK, Fla. | A strong effort for the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team came up just short on Sunday afternoon as the Chargers fell on the road to host Rollins by a 3-2 score. UAH slips to 1-3 on the year, while the Tars improve to 1-3.
Â
The visitors found themselves trailing 2-0 at the half after Rollins scored in the fourth and 32nd minutes, and UAH would continue to trail by the two-goal deficit until the game peaked in intensity in the final 20 minutes.
Â
Cutting UAH's deficit in half 71st minute,
Jordan Wright played a ball to
Alex Martinez who buried it for his first goal as a Charger while giving Wright his 16th point of the season, but Rollins would reclaim its two-goal advantage just 10 minutes later in the 81st.
Â
Jordan Cole scored for the Tars to make it 3-1, but just 21 seconds later the Chargers would again pull to within one as the team was awarded a penalty kick that
Hermann Bjornsson would bury from the spot.
Â
The score marks Bjornsson second of the season and both have come on PKs.
Â
The Chargers would not be able to record another shot, however, as Rollins held on for the 3-2 final.
Â
Michael Winstone recorded six saves in goal for the Chargers, facing 11 shots – including nine on target – from Rollins, while UAH had 17 shots with six on frame.
Â
UAH also held a 5-3 advantage in corners in the contest.
Â
The Chargers will now return home for a midweek non-conference contest as North Georgia visits on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.
