Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Buchanan’s Strike Lifts UAH to 1-0 Road Win

CLINTON, Miss. | A late first-half goal would prove to be the difference on Friday as The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team opened up Gulf South Conference action with a win, knocking off host Mississippi College 1-0. UAH improves to 3-3-0 (1-0-0 GSC), while MC falls to 0-6-0 (0-2-0 GSC).

With time winding down in the opening half, UAH's Daniel Buchanan scored his first of the season off an assist from Leo De Smedt to give the Chargers the 1-0 advantage as only 58 seconds remained until the halftime break.

Buchanan and De Smedt moved into a tie for fifth on the team in scoring as both increased their point total to five for the season.

The goal marked the second of the sophomore Buchanan's career, and of note, his other career score also came in the 45th minute of a contest last year against Florida Southern.

The Chargers were statistically the more dangerous of the two sides in the contest, holding a 13-12 edge in shots including a wider 7-3 margin in attempts that were on frame, and UAH also earned 10 corners while clearing away five for Mississippi College.

Michael Winstone registered three saves to post his second consecutive shutout, and the senior keeper has not allowed a score in 189 straight minutes.

UAH will now look to build upon Friday's win as the squad travels to Delta State on Sunday. Kick-off in Cleveland, Mississippi, is set for 3:30 p.m.
