UAH Drops Friday Matchup to No. 14 PBA 3-0

ORLANDO, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team lost its weekend-opening match in the South Region Crossover to No. 14 Palm Beach Atlantic by a final score of 3-0 (17-25, 22-25, 23-25) on Friday afternoon. UAH slips to 13-6, while PBA improves to 13-3.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Haley Hop led the defense and tied with a game-high 21 digs in the contest, while also contributing five assists on offense.
- A total of four Chargers notched double-digit digs in the match, as Anna LeDuc (13 digs), Kirsten Giles (12 digs) and Lorah Yonce (10 digs) joined Hop with 10 or more digs for UAH.
- Anna Claire Johnson paced the offense with nine kills to go along with eight digs and two total blocks on the defensive end.
- Giles posted the lone UAH double-double with 22 assists and 12 digs in addition to four kills on a .273 hitting percentage.
 
Turning Points
- After both teams played closely to a 5-5 tie in the initial set, Palm Beach Atlantic broke through with seven of the next eight tallies en route to the 25-17 win in the first stanza.
- The Chargers opened the second set strong and held a 13-10 lead midway through the frame, but the Sailfish were able to overtake the lead late on a four-point swing as PBA won the second 25-22.
- After PBA started out with an early advantage in the third set, UAH eventually pulled ahead later on 22-20 after scoring four of the previous five points. However, PBA went on to notch the five of the final six tallies for the 25-23 match-clinching win.
 
Noteworthy
- Hop now has six games with 20 or more digs.
- The Chargers notched a total of 75 digs in the match, which is the highest dig total in a three-set contest this season for UAH.
- Giles double-double was her 12th of the season.
