UAH Ties 1-1 in Regulation in Michigan Tech Series Finale

HOUGHTON, Mich. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team ended Saturday's night contest in a 1-1 tie at Michigan Tech in the finale of a two-game WCHA series, with the Huskies earning the extra league point on a second overtime goal. UAH now stands at 2-3-1 (2-1-1 WCHA), while MTU is now 1-4-1 (1-2-1 WCHA).
 
Turning Point
- Following a 1-1 tie after 65 minutes of regulation, Michigan Tech was able to nab the extra league point on a tally by Reid Sturos 31 seconds into the 3-on-3 overtime period in the finale.
 
Inside the Box Score
- After a scoreless tie in the first two periods, the Huskies got on the board first with a goal by Matt Roy on the power play at 10:30.
- UAH was able to turn around and knot the score at 1-1 when Kurt Gosselin notched his first tally of the season at 11:20 of the third frame.
- In his first career start, Jordan Uhelski stood tall in goal with a total of 29 saves to make his record 0-0-1 in 2016-17, as the junior notched a critical 12 saves in the second.
- UAH had a total of 22 shots on goal in the contest, with Brandon Carlson, Cody Marooney and Gosselin registering three shots on goal apiece in the game.
 
Next Time Out
- The Chargers open the 2016-17 home slate next weekend with a visit WCHA member Lake Superior State on Oct 21-22. Puck drops at 7:07 p.m. for both contests.
