UAH Tripped Up in Series Opener by Lake Superior State

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team fell to Lake Superior State in the opening matchup of a two-game, Western Collegiate Hockey Association series on Friday night by a final score of 6-3 in the Chargers 2016-17 home opener at the Von Braun Center. UAH slips to 2-4-1 (2-2-1 WCHA), while LSSU improves to 3-0-0 (1-0-0 WCHA).

Turning Point
- Lake Superior State's offense continued its successful start to the 2016-17 season, as it utilized a total of four goals in the second period by Brayden Gelsinger at 10:52, Diego Cuglietta at 13:02 and at 15:12, and JT Henke at 18:19 en route to the 6-3 win.

Inside the Box Score
- UAH would trail 2-0 after 20 minutes of play in the first, as LSSU potted a pair of goals in the opening frame by Gelsinger and Gage Torrel.
- However, the Chargers rebounded early into the second period with a goal by Huntsville native Josh Kestner at 3:34 of the stanza. Kestner was assisted by fellow junior Brennan Saulnier on the play.
- Following the four-goal outburst by the Lakers in the second, UAH was able to notch two goals in the third period by Jordan Larson at 3:06 and Brandon Salerno at 18:31 to bring the game to its 6-3 final.
- Matt Larose played the first two periods in goal for UAH, allowing six goals, registering 19 saves and dropping his record to 2-4-0 on the year, while Jordan Uhelski relieved Larose in the third for six saves and zero goals allowed.
- The Chargers penalty kill unit held the Lakers to zero power-play goals in three chances.
- Cam Knight and Brandon Parker tied for a team-high two blocks in the loss.

Noteworthy
- Kestner's goal was the first in his junior season, and he also added an assist on Salerno's tally for his first multi-point game of the season with one marker and one helper.
- Sophomore John Teets collected his first career point in an assist on Salerno's goal in the third.
- Uhelski has allowed just one goal in his last 80 minutes played.
