UAH Falls in Series Finale to Lake Superior State

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team fell to Lake Superior State in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association series finale on Saturday night by a final score of 5-2 at the Von Braun Center. UAH slips to 2-5-1 (2-3-1 WCHA), while LSSU improves to 4-0-0 (2-0-0 WCHA).
 
Turning Point
- After leading 2-1 after 20 minutes of play, Lake Superior State proceeded to pot two additional goals in the second period by Mitch Hults at 1:33 and Anthony Nellis at 14:20 of the frame to take a pivotal 4-1 lead heading into the third.
 
Inside the Box Score
- The Chargers were first on the board on Saturday night as junior Max McHugh registered an unassisted marker at 1:00 of the opening period.
- However, Lake Superior State was able to take a 2-1 lead with a pair of goals after McHugh's tally by Nellis at 8:50 and Bryan Basilico at 15:54.
- After LSSU took a 4-1 lead with two goals in the second, McHugh ended the string of Laker goals with his second of the game at 2:18 of the third on the power play. McHugh was assisted by Brennan Saulnier and Jordan Larson on the play.
- The Lakers chipped in one final goal at 18:09 of the third period by Diego Cuglietta to bring the game to its 5-2 final.
- Jordan Uhelski took the loss in goal to slip his season record to 0-1-1, after totaling five goals allowed and a game-high 28 saves.
- UAH was 1-for-2 when on the power play, while holding LSSU to one power-play goal in six opportunities.
 
Noteworthy
- McHugh notched his first two-goal performance of the season, increasing his team-leading total to five goals on the year. Three of his five goals have come on the power play as well.
- Uhelski now has two games with 25-plus saves.

- UAH returns to action next weekend with a trip to St. Cloud State on Oct. 28-29 in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
