HUNTSVILLE |The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team defeated visiting Gulf South Conference foe West Alabama by a final score of 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-19, 25-16) on Tuesday night at Spragins Hall to open the week's slate. UAH improves to 12-3 (6-2 GSC), while UWA slips to 10-7 (3-5 GSC).

Rachel Brugman led all UAH attackers with 13 kills and a .407 hitting percentage, with
Anna Claire Johnson and
Lorah Yonce joining Brugman with double-digit kills with 12 and 10, respectively.
- Both Johnson and Yonce notched double-doubles on the evening, as Johnson added 17 digs and Yonce notched a team-high 19 digs.

Kirsten Giles had another successful overall performance, as she had a double-double with 45 assists and 11 digs to go along with five kills.

Caroline Sanford paced the defense with 3.0 total blocks.

Turning Points
- The Chargers started strong in the opening set as the squad led 6-3 early over UWA, and went on to add two rallies of three points and one of four tallies en route to the 25-17 win in the first.
- With UAH leading 23-21, West Alabama was able to score the final four points to take the set 25-23 and tie the match 1-1.
- UAH was able to jump out to a strong lead in early going of the third set with a 15-7 advantage, and the Chargers' defense was able to limit the Tigers to just one 3-0 rally from that point on to take the lead 2-1 on a 25-19 win in the third.
- After a three-point swing by West Alabama knotted the fourth set at 7-7, the Chargers registered six consecutive points to take a 13-7 and go on to handily win the final frame by a score of 25-16.

- The Chargers improved to 9-0 at home in 2016 with the win.
- Yonce's 19 digs were a career-high for the Nashville, Tennessee, native, and she's now recorded 10 or more kills on four occasions.
- Â Giles now has 11 double-doubles in 2016 with assists and digs.
- Johnson has now recorded back-to-back double-doubles with digs and kills, giving her four performances with double digit kills and digs in 2016.
