UAH Throttles Alaska Anchorage in 5-2 Victory

ANCHORAGE, Alaska | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team opened the two-game WCHA series at Alaska Anchorage with a dominant 5-2 win at Sullivan Arena on Friday night. UAH improves to 3-7-1 (3-3-1 WCHA), while UAA slips to 1-6-0 (0-3-0 WCHA).

Turning Point
- In the strongest offensive start to the 2016-17 season for the Chargers, UAH throttled Alaska Anchorage with a total of four, first-period goals in the opening frame to lead 4-1 through 20 minutes of play en route to the season-opening win.

Inside the Box Score
- Sophomore Cam Knight opened up the UAH scoring in the first at 1:29 with his second goal of the year, thanks to helpers from Madison Dunn and Matt Salhany.
- It didn't take long for UAH to push the lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal by Hans Gorowsky at 2:05, prior to Brennan Saulnier netting his second of the year at 6:19 to make it a 3-0 advantage.
- Alaska Anchorage was able to cut into the UAH lead with a marker by Brad Duwe at 13:07 of the first, but John Teets helped UAH regain the three-goal advantage at 4-1 with a tally at 18:06.
- Following first intermission, UAA's Duwe struck again for his second of the game at 6:19 of the second on the power play to slim UAH's lead to 4-2.
- After the second intermission, Kurt Gosselin netted his second of the year at 14:29 of the third to bring the game to its 5-2 final. Saulnier and Jordan Larson picked up assists on the score.
- Jordan Uhelski started between the pipes on Friday night with two goals allowed and 25 saves, notching his first collegiate win in goal and improving his season record to 1-3-1.
- The Chargers were 2-for-7 on the power play, while holding the Seawolves to one goal in six power-play chances.

Noteworthy
- The Chargers last scored four goals in a period on March 4 of last season against Bowling Green in Huntsville, which was also the last time UAH had five goals or more in a contest.
- McHugh registered his first multi-assist performance of the season, and it was his second game with two points in 2016 as he scored two goals against Lake Superior State (10/22).
- A total of three Chargers posted multi-point games as Larson (2 assists) and Saulnier (1 goal, 1 assist) joined McHugh for the team-high in points.
- Teets goal in the first period was his first career goal, which gives the sophomore at least one point in each of the last three series.
- Knight has scored a goal in each of the past two games.
- Highest scoring output for UAH in a road game since the 5-0 win at LSSU last season on Oct. 31.
- Second UAH win at UAA in the past two seasons, giving the Chargers a 4-2-1 record against the Seawolves in the last seven meetings.

Next Time Out
- UAH and Alaska Anchorage will wrap up the WCHA series on Saturday night at 10:07 p.m. CST.
