RING IN THE NEW YEAR: The UAH women's basketball team will play one final game in 2016 on New Year's Eve at West Florida with tip-off slated for noon in Pensacola, and the Chargers will then play its first 2017 contest on Monday when the team travels to Valdosta State for a 5 p.m. CST contest. UAH enters the pair of road games at 1-7 (0-3 Gulf South Conference).
 
LAST TIME OUT: UAH entered the holiday break with a pair of setbacks at home, falling 63-59 to West Georgia and 77-65 to West Alabama. Freshman Katie Speegle was strong for UAH in the two games, scoring 16 against UWG before adding 15 against UWA.
 
CONFERENCE UPDATE: With all 12 league teams having three GSC games in the books, North Alabama and Lee are tied atop the standings at 3-0. Four other teams – West Florida, Valdosta State, West Georgia, and Shorter – are owners of 2-1 marks.
 
STRONG SHOOTING: Though the Chargers are sixth overall in the league in field goal percentage at 41.8 percent on the year, in conference games only, UAH is third in the league as the team shoots 42.2 percent in GSC action. The Chargers shot 51.9 percent for its best mark in conference play in the GSC-opener at North Alabama.
 
VALUING THE BALL: After recording double-digits in assists just once in the season's first four games while also turning the ball over more than 20 teams in each of those games, UAH now has logged at least 10 assists in the past four games while progressively lowering its turnovers from a season-high 26 at UNA to just three in the last game before Christmas against West Alabama.
 
ON THE GLASS: The Chargers are averaging 33.9 rebounds per game, just under the average of its opponents which is 34.1. Three players – Aryn Sanders, Chandler Elder, and Morgan Tipton – are averaging more than five rebounds per game with Sanders leading the way with her average of 5.4 per contest.
 
ABOUT WEST FLORIDA: The Argos are presently 7-2 including the 2-1 mark in conference play, and the team is 2-1 in Pensacola. Outscoring its opposition by more than 10 points per contest, UWF scores 74.6 points on average, and the team's quartet of double-figure scorers is led by Toni Brewer who is scoring 15.6 points per game.
 
SERIES HISTORY: The all-time series with UWF is slightly tilted in Saturday's host's favor at 27-26, but the Chargers swept both of the meetings last year. In Pensacola, UAH was a 65-58 winner as Chandler Elder was one of four players to score in double figures with a 15-point showing.
 
ABOUT VALDOSTA STATE: The Blazers go into the weekend at 5-4 (2-1 GSC), and VSU will play host to North Alabama on Saturday at The Complex. VSU also features four players who are scoring in double figures, led by the double-double effort of Madi Mitchell who is scoring 17.7 per game to go along with a rebounding average of 10.2.
 
SERIES HISTORY: Valdosta State owns a 34-14 advantage in the all-time series after both teams defended their respective home floors last year. At VSU, the Blazers won 62-53.
