UAH Records First-Ever Win at NMU with 4-1 Drubbing

MARQUETTE, Mich. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team opened the WCHA weekend series with the program's first-ever win at Northern Michigan with a 4-1 victory at the Berry Events Center on Friday night. UAH improves to 6-11-2 (6-7-2 WCHA), while NMU falls to 4-13-2 (2-10-1 WCHA).

Turning Point
- After both sides scored one goal apiece earlier in the first period, junior Brandon Parker delivered the game-winning goal in the waning moments of the opening frame at 19:53 which gave UAH a 2-1 lead heading into first intermission.

Inside the Box Score
- Just over nine minutes of scoreless play started Friday's series opener until Dominik Shine registered a shorthanded goal at 9:32 to put NMU in front early 1-0.
- However, the Chargers rebounded with a goal at 14:27 of the second period by senior Cody Marooney thanks to assists by fellow seniors Regan Soquila and Brent Fletcher.
- UAH was able to push the lead to 2-1 on Parker's tally at 19:53, with helpers being supplied by sophomore Hans Gorowsky and junior Josh Kestner.
- Following first intermission, the Chargers and Wildcats went scoreless for over 12 minutes to begin the second period until Max McHugh stretched the UAH lead to 3-1 at 12:49 with an assist from sophomore John Teets.
- The UAH offense continued to pick up steam shortly after McHugh's goal as Kestner made it a 4-1 advantage over NMU with a goal at 15:10 of the second. Both Tyler Poulsen and Parker picked up assists on the score.
- Both squads would go scoreless – despite two power-play chances by the Wildcats and one for the Chargers – over the final 20 minutes of play en route to the 4-1 UAH victory.
- Jordan Uhelski improves to 4-4-2 in goal after receiving his third straight start between the pipes, totaling 24 saves and helping UAH hold NMU scoreless in five power-play opportunities.
- UAH posted a total of 33 shots on goal with Kurt Gosselin leading the squad with five shots on target.

Noteworthy
- Marooney's goal was his first of the season and 10th of his career, while Soquila picked up his first point of the 2016-17 season with his assist on Marooney's tally.
- Parker has now scored a goal in each of the last four series.
- This was the third time this season Kestner has recorded one goal and one assist in a game, accomplishing the feat earlier in 2016-17 against Lake Superior State (10/21) and Bowling Green (11/19).
- UAH holds a three-game road win streak for the first time since 2004-05.

Next Time Out
- UAH and NMU wrap up the two-game WCHA series on Saturday at 6:07 p.m. CST.
