HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team picked up a signature win
on Thursday night, knocking off visiting Delta State by a 57-52 score at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers improve to 12-10 (9-9 Gulf South Conference), while DSU slips to 16-5 (13-5 GSC).

The victory snaps a four-game skid for UAH, and it comes against a team that had been nationally ranked just a week ago and that entered the game tied for second in the GSC standings.
UAH held the lead for nearly 35 minutes in the contest, and the squad used an impressive defensive effort to hold the Lady Statesmen to a 34.0 field goal percentage on the night.

Josi Saunders scored 15, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out six assists to lead the Chargers in the contest, and
Dina Saunders joined her sister in double figures as she notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The double-double is the second of the season for
Dina Saunders.
After leading for the majority of the first quarter, UAH outscored Delta State 13-7 for the final
9:11 of the opening half after the score was knotted at 15-15.

Following the break, the Blue and White maintained an advantage over the Statesmen, despite DSU pulling within four at the end of the third quarter at 44-40. The Chargers continued to lead Delta State throughout the fourth frame, extending the lead to as much as seven en route to the 57-52 final.

For the contest, UAH shot 44.7 percent from the field, and the team also outrebounded the Lady Statesmen by a 32-30 clip.

Delta State did, however, grab 10 offensive rebounds and used those to hold a 15-4 edge in second-chance points.

UAH will look to capitalize on the momentum generated by the strong win when the team welcomes Mississippi College to Huntsville for a 2 p.m.
Saturday contest. Earlier in the season, the Chargers were 64-51 winners in the Magnolia State.
