UAH Sweeps Lee in Walk-Off Fashion

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team completed the Gulf South Conference sweep of Lee in walk-off fashion on Sunday at Charger Park by a final score of 10-9. UAH improves to 8-4 (3-0 GSC), while Lee slips to 5-5 (0-3 GSC).

After both sides went scoreless in the first and second innings, Lee was able to take a 2-0 advantage on a Ben Holland two-run homer in the top of the third before piling on a five-run rally in the top of the fourth for a 7-0 lead.

The Chargers were able to chip away at the deficit with one run in the fifth and three runs in the sixth – highlighted by a two-run home run by junior Trey Mathis – to cut the Flames lead to 7-4.

Lee was able to push ahead 9-4 with a pair of runs in the second, which were negated by a two-RBI double to centerfield by Michael Fox to bring the Chargers within three at 9-6.

Following a Logan Crook scoreless top of the ninth inning, UAH was able to load the bases with no outs as each of the first three batters reached. Austin Sanders proceeded to draw the Chargers within two at 9-7 on a RBI single to right field, with Matt Spruill and Parker Farley scoring on wild pitches in the ensuing at-bat to knot the game at 9-9.

The Flames then intentionally walked both AJ Walden and Mathis to reload the bases, which setup the walk-off hit-by-pitch to Fox to give the Chargers the series sweep and the 10-9 victory.

Crook was the pitcher of record for the Chargers, improving his season mark to 1-2.

UAH had a total of 12 hits in the contest, with five different Chargers recording multi-hit games. Fox paced the Blue and White with three RBI and went 2-for-4 at the plate.

The Chargers look ahead to a total of five games in the coming week, beginning at home on Wednesday at 2 p.m. against Stillman.
