HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's lacrosse team dropped its inaugural home game on Saturday afternoon to Indianapolis by a final score of 14-10 at Charger Park. UAH slips to 4-1, while UIndy improves to 2-1.
The Chargers offense was paced by
Megan Hart and
Natalie Pachinger with two goals apiece, with Pachinger also adding seven groundballs and five draw controls to the effort.
UAH's leading scorers helped UAH on Saturday as Pachinger scored the first goal of the game at 29:11, followed by Hart's marker at 28:59 to make it a 2-0 Charger lead.
After both sides traded goals, Indianapolis potted three unanswered tallies at 13:32, 2:06 and 1:23 to own a 4-3 advantage heading into the half.
The Blue and White rebounded early in the second half with Pachinger and Hart striking again at 29:25 and 28:56, respectively, to overtake the Greyhounds lead at 5-4. After the early goals in the second, both squads would trade goals before UAH was able to extend the lead to 8-6 with consecutive tallies by
Megan Hartnett and Pachinger.
However, Indianapolis went on to six straight unanswered goals to take a key 12-8 advantage over the Chargers.
Bekka San Souci was able to end the string of tallies by the Greyhounds with her seventh of the season at 7:36, but a pair of goals by the visitor put UIndy ahead 14-9.
Hart scored the final goal of the game with 51 seconds remaining to bring the game to its 14-10 final.
Haleigh Comp started in net for the Chargers, posting nine saves in the contest despite allowed 14 goals. Comp's record slips to 4-1 with the loss.
UAH continues its two-game homestand with a matchup against Ursuline at Charger Park on Tuesday at 3 p.m., before the squad heads to the Sunshine State next weekend for contests against Tampa and Ave Maria.
