No. 3 UAH Picks Up Another Series Win

HUNTSVILLE | The No. 3 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team picked up its fifth straight conference series win, defeating visiting West Florida 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park. The Chargers improve to 25-4 (13-2 Gulf South Conference) with the victory, while UWF slips to 20-9 (8-7 GSC).

Reigning GSC Player of the Year Kaitlyn Bannister had another tremendous day, racking up in total four RBI including three on her team-best eighth home run of the season that came in the third and turned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead for the Chargers.

Bannister also drew a bases-loaded walk later in the game.

The offensive effort from the Chargers helped lift Tyler Harrison to her 15th win of the season as she moved to 15-2 in the circle, settling down after giving up two runs in the first inning to scatter five hits and strike out a pair in her 13th complete game of the year.

All of UAH's runs came in the third and fourth innings as Bannister's homer was joined by Savannah Smith's RBI double in the bottom of the third to double up UWF at 4-2, and the Chargers added another pair of runs in the fourth when Bannister and Abby Roberts both earned free passes with the bases full of Chargers.

On the day, the hosts collected five hits but also added eight walks to move the season total in bases on balls to 166.

Of UAH's five hits, Brianna Sullivan led the way with a pair from the top of the order, and she also drew two of the walks to reach base four times.

The Chargers will now hit the road for a three-game set against conference-leading Delta State next weekend in Cleveland, Mississippi. The series starts with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and will conclude with a single game on Sunday that is also slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
