CLEVELAND, Miss. | Conference-leading Delta State picked up a doubleheader sweep of No. 3 UAH on Saturday, winning 5-1 in the first game before taking the nightcap 8-0 in five innings. The Chargers slip to 25-6 (13-4 Gulf South Conference) with the setbacks, while DSU improves to 27-6 (16-1 GSC).

The two teams will conclude the series on Sunday with a single game that is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Delta State 5, UAH 1Â
UAH started the scoring in the day's first contest as heads-up base running by
Brianna Sullivan on a foul out by
Tyler Harrison  gave the Chargers a run and Harrison a sac fly in the top of the first, but Delta State quickly answered by manufacturing a run in the bottom half of the inning to level the contest at 1-1.

The score stayed that way through the next four innings until the sixth when Delta State erupted for four runs off a pair of homers to produce the eventual 5-1 final.

The Lady Statesmen outhit UAH 10-6 in the contest, and
Savannah Smith led the guests with a pair.

The Chargers threatened to do more damage but totaled nine left on base in the game.

Tyler Harrison lost for the first time in 17 appearances and for just the third time this season as she goes to 15-3 in the circle with the loss.

Delta State 8, UAH 0 Â
The Chargers were limited to just one hit – a
Sarah Jordan double – as Delta State scored three times in both the third and fourth innings and twice more in the fifth to end the contest early.

Taylor Johnson faced just two batters over the minimum for Delta State, allowing the hit while also hitting Sullivan with a pitch.

Kassidy Tally, Kaitlin Moore, and Morgan Kazerooni each recorded three hits to pace DSU offensively as the hosts held a 13-1 advantage in hits in the contest.

Taking the loss in the circle for UAH was
Emily Glover who lost for the first time this year, moving to 3-1.
