UAH Cruises to 19-5 Win at District of Columbia

WASHINGTON | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's lacrosse team romped District of Columbia by a score of 19-5 on Sunday morning in a nonconference matchup to open a three-game road trip. UAH improves to 8-2 on the season, while UDC slips to 1-5.

The Chargers were led by Nicole Federovitch's six goals on Sunday, while Megan Olivia Hart had a total of five points on four goals and one assist to go along with a team-high three caused turnovers and three draw controls.

UAH's offense was dominant early against District of Columbia, as the Blue and White totaled six consecutive unanswered goals over the first 17 minutes of play. Federovitch scored three of her six goals in the early outburst, with Hart adding two markers and Wiegand recording one tally to make it an early 6-0 lead.

However, UDC rebounded to outscore UAH 4-1 in the final 14 minutes of the opening half to cut the Chargers lead to 7-4 heading into the break. Hart added her third goal of the game at 7:50 during that span.

The Blue and White continued its offensive surge in the second period as Federovitch added her fourth of the game at 28:39 which started a rally of seven consecutive Charger goals over the initial 12 minutes of the final 30 minutes of play.

The Firebirds' Amy Rock scored the final UDC goal of the game at 12:49, before the Chargers scored five more times during the last 12 minutes of play to bring the game to its 21-5 final. Federovitch added her sixth goal of the season and 44th of the season to highlight the final rally.

Reigning GSC Defensive Player of the Week Haleigh Comp improved to 8-2 in net on the season, after holding UDC to five goals over 60 minutes with a total of five saves. This is the fourth time this season that Comp has held opponents to seven goals or less.

The Chargers look ahead to a matchup at Alderson Broaddus at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in Philippi, West Virginia, before wrapping up the road swing with a game at Davis & Elkins on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Elkins, West Virginia.
