No. 3 Chargers Pick Up Another Series Sweep

HUNTSVILLE | The third-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team completed its third conference series sweep of the year on Sunday, blowing past Christian Brothers 10-6 to take all three at Charger Park this weekend. UAH improves to 21-3 (11-1 Gulf South Conference), while CBU slips to 6-16 (2-10 GSC).

The win also pushes UAH to 11-0 at home.

The Chargers will return to action at home on Tuesday when the team welcomes non-conference foe Tuskegee for a doubleheader that is slated to start at 2 p.m.

Kaitlyn Bannister continued her impressive weekend and her strong play in conference action as she racked up three of UAH's 10 hits including a pair of doubles that lifted her season total to eight to tie for the team lead, and Bannister also drove in three runs to now own 29 on the year.

Also strong at the plate all weekend was Taylor Wascavage who capped off the series by picking up another pair of hits and scoring three times.

Freshman Rachel Burden made her first career start in the circle on Sunday and earned the victory as she tossed 4.2 innings, scattering five hits and giving up three runs, and Tyler Harrison recorded her second save of the season as she threw the final four outs while striking out a pair.

After CBU scored opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first, the Chargers had an immediate answer as Lexi Beach drew a bases-loaded walk before a run scored on Savannah Smith's grounder to second to tie the contest at 2-2, and UAH would go ahead 4-2 on an infield single from Haley Thompson and an Abby Roberts sacrifice fly in the second.

The Lady Bucs cut the UAH lead to 4-3 in the third, but back-to-back doubles from Bannister and Harrison made it a 6-4 game in the fourth before the hosts busted the game wide open with a four-run sixth.
