Chargers Wrap Road Swing with 20-12 Win Sunday

TAMPA, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's lacrosse team capped off the two-game road swing in the Sunshine State with a 20-12 victory over Ave Maria in a non-conference matchup on Sunday. UAH improves to 6-2, while AMU slips to 1-4.

Megan Hart led the Chargers offensively on Sunday with five goals and one assist while adding two ground balls, one caused turnover and five draw controls to the effort. Reigning GSC Player of the Week Natalie Pachinger also had a strong performance with two goals, a team-high eight ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls.

The Chargers opened up the scoring in the nonconference contest with Nicole Federovitch scoring at 29:13 and Emily Weigand making it a 2-0 lead at 27:45.

Ave Maria would follow with its first goal of the game at 27:27, but UAH proceeded to score six unanswered tallies over the next 10 minutes of play with Pachinger pacing the squad with two goals in that time frame.

A pair of goals by the Gyrenes and another goal by Federovitch brought the UAH lead to 9-3, before the Blue and White scored four straight times before the end of the half for a 12-3 advantage.

Following the break, the Chargers continued to push the pace with an additional goal by Wiegand at 27:36 and two goals by Megan Hart at 24:53 and 23:47.

Over the last 22 minutes of the contest, UAH was outscored 9-4 but would hold on for the 20-12 nonconference victory. Haleigh Comp moved to 6-2 on the season in goal after totaling seven saves despite allowing 12 tallies.

The Chargers return home on Saturday for a matchup against Tennessee Wesleyan at Charger Park at 2 p.m.
