PENSACOLA, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team's 2016 GSC tournament run came to an end on Tuesday afternoon with a 3-1 loss to Delta State at Jim Spooner Field. UAH completes the season with a 33-20 record, which is the fifth straight season UAH has recorded 30 wins or more.
Despite incurring the loss, UAH received a stellar starting performance by
Riley Camp, who turned in 8.0 innings with three runs allowed and one walk in his first-ever start for the Blue and White.
Following a scoreless first, Delta State was able to take the first lead of the game with two runs in the bottom of the second, prior to pushing the lead to 3-0 with one run in the fourth.
UAH threatened heavily in the top of the sixth with the bases loaded and two outs, but a hard-hit ball to left by
AJ Walden died at the warning track ending the frame.
Undeterred, the Chargers scored one run in the seventh to bring the game to its 3-1 final, as
Michael Fox notched a RBI single to center that plated
Wright Hackett from third.
The Blue and White notched a total of five hits in the contest, led by
Trey Mathis with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.
UAH had a trio of players earn all-GSC tournament team nods as Fox,
Heath McRae and
Ben Rhodes were selected for the honor.
