HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team started the 2016 campaign on Thursday night, dropping a 2-1 decision to visiting Trevecca Nazarene despite a furious comeback effort that saw the team nearly earn the equalizer in the closing minutes. UAH starts the season out at 0-1-0, while TNU improves to 1-0-0.
Turning Point
The visiting Trojans scored in the 10th minute as Nicolas Reinhard tallied from Jeremiah Wright, and TNU made it a 2-0 contest in the 31st off of Jake Singer's strike assisted by Jordan Gilmore to give the team a two-goal advantage at the halftime break.
Inside the Box Score
-Hermann Bjornsson opened his 2016 account when the senior scored for the hosts in the 69th minute of the contest, and it was sophomore Tucker Watts who assisted on the marker that cut UAH's deficit in half.
-After UAH was rewarded for its strong second-half push, the home side nearly earned the equalizer in the 73rd when Huntsville native Daniel Buchanan had a strong attempt that went just wide, and the Chargers then earned consecutive corners in the 75th and 76th minutes that nearly resulted in the tying goal when Khalil Bell rang a shot off the crossbar.
-The Chargers finished the night with a wide 22-8 advantage in shots after firing off 15 compared to TNU's five in the second 45 minutes.
-Myles Fullen started in goal for the Chargers to make his Blue and White debut after transferring from Evansville, and the Nashville, Tennessee, native made two saves in picking up the loss.
Noteworthy
-Bjornsson's score marks the 14th of his career after he tallied a career-best six a season ago in his senior campaign.
-The goal for Bjornsson is his first career opening-night score, though he did notch an assist in his collegiate debut four years ago coincidentally against Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville.
-Watts notches his third career assist as the Chesterfield, Missouri, native picked up a pair of helpers in his freshman year in 2015.

UAH will be back in action on Monday afternoon when No. 25 Lynn visits Charger Park for a 2 p.m. contest.
