HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville started off the 2016 season with wins over Ouachita Baptist, Spring Hill and Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall to wrap up the 2016 Hilton Garden Inn South UAH Classic.

Game one
The Chargers opened up the day against Ouachita Baptist, topping the Tigers by a score of 3-1 (25-16, 19-25, 25-13, 25-17).

Inside the Box Score
- After an impressive freshman campaign,
Anna LeDuc started her sophomore season with a team-best 18 kills against the Tigers, followed by
Anna Claire Johnson with 12 kills and
Lorah Yonce with nine.

Haley Hop – a Madison, Alabama, native – paced the squad with 15 digs in the opener, while
Kirsten Giles and LeDuc contributed 10. Hop also led the team with three service aces.
- Both Giles and LeDuc finished the contest with double-doubles, as LeDuc contributed 18 kills and 10 digs and Giles posted 51 assists and 10 digs.

- The opener on Saturday marked the first career match as head coach for
Dr. Cade Smith.
- LeDuc's 18 kills were a career-best, as her previous high was 15 kills set last season on two occasions.

In the second match of the day, the Chargers took on in-state foe Spring Hill and topped the Badgers by a final of 3-1 (26-24, 25-18, 19-25, 25-17).

- UAH had a pair of players reach double-digit kills in Johnson (16 kills) and Yonce (11 kills).
- Johnson added 11 digs in the contest for her first double-double of 2016, joining Giles as the other double-double on the UAH roster with 40 assists and 11 digs.

Caroline Sanford paced the defense with six total blocks, after also leading the squad in the first match with five blocks.
