BACK AT HOME: The UAH women's basketball team returns to Kelly Court at Spragins Hall this weekend, welcoming Union for a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday, followed by a 1 p.m. tilt with Christian Brothers on Monday. The Chargers enter play this weekend at 1-9 overall and 0-5 in Gulf South Conference play. Saturday's game can be heard locally on 97.7 The Zone.
TIME CHANGE: Monday's game against Christian Brothers is now a special matinee contest with the tip-off slated for 1 p.m. in Huntsville.
LAST TIME OUT: The Chargers dropped a pair of road games over New Year's weekend, falling 71-52 to West Florida and 76-66 at Valdosta State.
Caroline Dodd was in double figures in both games to lead the team.
BALANCED EFFORT: Though the team has just one player averaging double figures in
Baylee Johnson who is scoring 11.1 points per game, the team features four other players who are scoring at least 7.0 points per contest:
Chandler Elder, 9.7 per game;
Aryn Sanders, 7.8 per game;
Katie Speegle, 7.6 per game; and Dodd, 7.0 per game.
BLOCK PARTY: After recording seven blocks in the team's first seven games, the Chargers have now swatted away 10 shots in the past three contests including a season-best five against West Alabama on Dec. 17. On the season, Speegle paces the team with nine blocks.
ABOUT UNION: The Bulldogs travel to the Tennessee Valley with an 8-4 overall mark and a 3-3 record in conference play, and the team is 1-2 in road games so far this year. The squad has six players in double figures with Jada Smith's 15.1 points per game leading the way, and Jada Perkins features an impressive stat line of 14.8 points per game, 7.2 rebounds per game, and 4.9 assists per game.
SERIES HISTORY: Union has won all 10 meetings with the Chargers including both games in the season series last year. In Huntsville, it was a close game with UU claiming an 89-85 victory.
ABOUT CHRISTIAN BROTHERS: The Buccaneers own a 6-4 (3-3 GSC) record on the season, and the team will be in Florence on Saturday to take on North Alabama. Samantha Reeves leads the team as she is scoring 14.1 points per contest to go along with a team-high rebounding average of 5.3 boards.
SERIES HISTORY: The Chargers lead the all-time series with CBU by a 15-10 clip after sweeping both meetings a year ago. In Huntsville,
Dina Saunders went off for 32 points in a 75-65 victory.
