UAH Set for GSC Matches at UWA and Mississippi College

UPCOMING WEEKEND: UAH hits the road for a pair of Gulf South Conference matches this weekend beginning with West Alabama (15-10, 7-2 GSC) on Friday at 6 p.m. before a Saturday matchup against Mississippi College (10-16, 2-8 GSC) at 2 p.m.
 
RECENT ACTION: The Chargers most recently notched a pair of league victories at home this past weekend by a score of 3-0 over Christian Brothers on Friday prior to a 3-2 win over Union on Saturday. UAH now sits at 19-9 overall and 7-3 in the GSC entering the weekend.
 
SOPHOMORE SURGE: Sophomore Isabelle Barnes has grown to be one of the Chargers most consistent producers on both offense and defense as she rates in the top 10 in the GSC with both a .297 hitting percentage and 68 total blocks. Barnes has posted eight or more kills with hitting percentages of .333 or higher in each of the past three matches, raising her to fourth on the squad with 141 kills in 2017.
 
DEFENSIVE ANCHOR: Haley Hop continues to lead the conference with 5.18 digs in addition to rating in the top three in the league with 430 total digs. Hop recently garnered her third career GSC Defensive Player of the Week award, after pacing the Chargers with 49 digs and 4.45 digs per set in wins over West Georgia, CBU and UU last week.
 
GSC UPDATE: West Florida maintains its position atop the GSC standings with a perfect 10-0 conference record, followed by North Alabama (8-2 GSC) in second and West Alabama (7-2 GSC) in third. UAH (7-3 GSC) begins the week in fourth place while Lee (6-3 GSC) and Shorter (6-3 GSC) are in a two-way tie for fifth in the conference.
 
TIGERS PROFILE: West Alabama begins the weekend with a 15-10 overall record and a 7-2 mark within the league, after most recently falling to West Florida in Pensacola by a score of 3-1 on Saturday. UWA's offense is led by Briana Sandifer with 331 kills, while three Tigers boast 200-plus digs. UAH holds an all-time record of 38-27 against West Alabama.
 
CHOCTAWS PROFILE: Mississippi College enters this weekend's slate with a 10-16 record overall including a 2-8 GSC record, following a 3-0 loss at Valdosta State on Saturday afternoon. MC's offense is paced by Kayana Mitchell with 179 kills and a .245 hitting percentage, while Jill Brown's 263 digs are a team-best for the Choctaws. UAH is 12-5 all-time against Mississippi College.
