UAH Earns Another Strong Road Conference Draw

CLINTON, Miss. | Pushing its unbeaten streak in Gulf South Conference play to five games to open the league slate, The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team played to a strong 1-1 draw at conference-leading Mississippi College on Friday afternoon. The Chargers go to 4-4-2 (3-0-2 GSC) on the season, while the Choctaws are now 8-1-2 (5-1-1 GSC).

Turning Points
-It was UAH who struck first on the afternoon as Daniel Buchanan fed it to Khalil Bell, and Bell then slipped past MC's aggressive keeper to easily bury it in the 34th minute to put the visiting side up 1-0.
-The score remained that way all the way up to the 81st minute when the GSC's top scoring team finally broke through with Aurele Chemin finding the net.
-The Choctaws then put three shots on goal in the two overtime periods, but it was UAH who had the best chance to end the game as the team was awarded a free kick just inches outside of the box. Gunnar Birgisson then produced a great effort towards goal, but Humberto Pelaez rose to the challenge with a diving save.
-Myles Fullen then recorded a pair of stops for UAH in the second overtime to preserve the draw and the key point in the conference standings.

Inside the Box Score
-The Choctaws finished the game with an 18-12 advantage in shots along with a 7-4 edge in shots on goal, and MC also established an 11-6 margin in corners.
-There were a total of 20 fouls whistled in the contest, including 11 against the Chargers in regulation, while MC had just three in the first 90 minutes before having five called against them in the two overtime periods.
-Fullen recorded six saves in net for the Chargers.
-Jordan Wright had a team-high four shots for the guests, while Khalil Bell led UAH with two that were on frame.

Noteworthy
-The Chargers now sit in fourth in the league standings with 11 points, just one off of West Alabama and Christian Brothers whom UAH has yet to play.
-Bell's score is his second of the season, and he becomes the third Charger this year to have multiple goals on the season.
-Fullen now has stopped six shots – a season-best – in two of UAH's last three games.

Next Time Out
-UAH is back in action on Sunday when the team looks to continue its strong GSC play at Delta State. Kick-off is slated for 3 p.m. in Cleveland.
