GSC PLAY UNDERWAY: The UAH men's basketball team will start Gulf South Conference action this week as the Chargers travel to Montevallo for an 8 p.m. tip-off before venturing to West Alabama on Sunday for a 4 p.m. start. UAH enters the week at 5-1 on the year.

WELCOME BACK: Montevallo has rejoined the GSC this season after a stint in the Peach Belt Conference, and the contest on Wednesday represents the first meeting against the Falcons since the teams met in the 2008-09 season.

LAST TIME OUT: UAH picked up a big win on the night before Thanksgiving, defeating previously unbeaten Clark Atlanta 81-64 to run the team's win streak to four games. Justin Ward notched a double-double in the contest with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

ON THE GLASS: Though UAH does not place an emphasis on getting offensive boards, the Chargers are one of the best teams in the nation on the defensive end as the Chargers rank 13th in Division II with 31.2 defensive rebounds per game, and that mark ranks tops in the GSC.

BALANCED ATTACK: The Chargers have three players that are scoring in double figures with four more that are averaging at least 8.0 points per contest including two freshmen in Seth Swalve and Sam Orf who are scoring 8.2 and 8.0, respectively. The team continues to be led by Justin Ward who is scoring 23.0 points per contest which places him second in the GSC.

BOUNCING BACK: After seeing his 3-point field goal percentage mark fall from 42.3 percent in his freshman campaign to 26.3 percent a year ago, junior Tanner Finley is connecting on 43.8 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc this season while scoring 9.5 points per contest. The Madison native has hit multiple 3s in five of UAH's six games on the year.

ABOUT MONTEVALLO: After dropping its first three games of the season, the Falcons have reeled off four straight wins to sit at 4-3 including a 2-0 mark at home. Three different players are averaging double figures led by Jamaar Taylor who is scoring 21.5 per game, while Julio Guity leads the Falcons with 7.3 boards per game.

SERIES HISTORY: Wednesday's meeting is the 71st all-time between the two programs, and the series is tied at 35-35 with the last meeting coming on Feb. 5, 2009.

ABOUT WEST ALABAMA: The Tigers are off to a 5-2 start including a 2-0 mark in Livingston ahead of Thursday's contest against North Alabama. Charles Eaton leads UWA and the GSC in scoring, averaging 27.6 points per game thanks to a 58.7 percent mark from the floor.

SERIES HISTORY: UAH is 51-21 all-time against the Tigers after sweeping the season series last year including a 76-72 victory in Livingston.
