Strong Second Half Leads UAH to Victory Over Lee on Saturday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team used a strong second half surge to push past visiting Lee on Saturday afternoon, winning 91-78 at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers move to 7-3 (1-2 Gulf South Conference) with the victory, while Lee slips to 7-3 (2-1 GSC).

Turning Point
-With the Flames leading 59-55 with just under 11 minutes remaining in the game, the Chargers ripped off a 10-1 run over the next 3:35 to go ahead for the first time in the game.

Inside the Box Score
-Chayse Elliott led a quartet of Chargers who scored in double figures as he knocked down three 3-pointers on his way to scoring 18 while also matching a team high with five assists and adding a team-best three steals for good measure.
-Joining him in double figures was Seth Swalve who scored 16, while both Kip Owens and Justin Ward added 14 on the night.
-Owens also had five assists while blocking three shots and grabbing three rebounds.
-The Chargers were led on the glass by Dalton Barkley who collected 10 boards in the contest.
-Michael McGuirk scored 13 to lead the Flames.
-After going 18-for-31 in the second half, UAH outshot the Flames by a 50.8 percent to 43.8 percent margin, while the guests won the rebounding battle by a 42-31 margin.
-The Chargers committed just 10 turnovers in the game and took advantage of Lee's 17 miscues by outscoring the Flames 23-7 in points off turnovers.

Inside the Flow
-Lee started the game hot out of the gates, jumping out to an 8-0 lead, and the Flames would lead by as many as 11 points on three different occasions in the opening period.
-The guests led by that 11-point margin at 32-21 with 3:45 left in the first half, but the Chargers would end the frame on a 13-4 run to go into the locker room at the break trailing by just two at 36-34.
-In the second half, Lee would push its lead back out to six at 47-41 at the 15:53 mark, but UAH would outscore the Flames 14-9 over the next 3:56 to pull within one before three straight free throws gave the visitors the aforementioned four-point advantage at 59-55 with 10:57 remaining.
-After the Chargers went in front, Lee was able to tie the contest at 67-67 with 5:39 left, but the hosts scored seven straight in less than a minute on its way to leading by as many as 14 in the game's waning moments.

Noteworthy
-Elliott has now led the Chargers in scoring in consecutive games, and he has knocked down multiple 3-pointers in three straight including 10 in the last two games combined.
-The 16 points for Swalve is a season-best mark for the freshman whose previous high was 15 at Montevallo on Nov. 29.
-Barkley establishes a career-best on the glass with the 10 boards, surpassing the seven that he had in UAH's contest at Trevecca Nazarene last week.
-The 10 turnovers commited by the Chargers are a season-low for the team.
