JACKSON, Tenn. | The No. 23 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a road victory on Saturday, pushing past Union by a 79-74 score. The Chargers move to 21-7 (17-5 Gulf South Conference), while UU slips to 14-14 (9-13 GSC).

The two teams will now turnaround and meet again on Tuesday night in Huntsville in the quarterfinal round of the 2017 visitspacecoast.com GSC Basketball Championships. UAH holds the No. 2 seed in the tournament, while Union has earned the seventh seed.

Turning Point
-The Chargers went on a 10-3 run over less than two minutes to go up 71-60 at the 6:11 mark of the second half, and that big cushion would be important as the Bulldogs pulled back within three in the final minute with a 7-0 run of their own. UAH, however, would go 4-for-4 at the free throw line in the closing seconds to preserve the win.

Brandon Roberts led what was a group of four Chargers who scored in double figures as he was 4-for-6 from beyond the perimeter on his way to scoring 19 points. For good measure, he grabbed six grounds, added an assist, and only committed one turnover while playing 29 minutes.

Chayse Elliott who scored 15 while leading the team with eight rebounds, and the double-figure contingent for the guests was rounded out by
Kip Owens and
Malik Cook-Stroupe who added 12 and 11, respectively.

Troy Saxton snagged six boards while dishing out a team-high five assists.
-For the contest, UAH outshot the Bulldogs by a 50.0 percent to 41.0 percent clip, and after allowing 18 3-pointers against Christian Brothers on Thursday, the Chargers allowed the home team just an 8-for-24 night from beyond the arc.
-Union held a slight edge on the glass by outrebounding the Chargers 34-33.
-Tray Boyd led all scorers in the contest as he poured in 21.

Inside the Flow
-Union started the game on an 8-2 run to grab the contest's first lead, but behind seven points from Owens over a 4:35 stretch, the Chargers went on a 13-4 spurt to go up 15-12 by the 13:42 mark of the opening half.
-There were then five ties and five lead changes before UAH closed the half on a 17-10 stretch that allowed the guests to lead 43-38 at the break.
-Roberts scored the first five points of the second half to put the Chargers up by 10 at 48-38, and though UU would counter with eight straight, UAH then outscored the Bulldogs by a 24-15 clip over the next 10 minutes to enjoy an 11-point lead at 72-61 with 5:22 left in the game.
-Union's late push then would come up just short as Elliott and Saxton buried free throws in the waning moments.

-With his second straight 19-point showing, Roberts' scoring average ticks up to a new season-best of 16.5 points per game.
-Scoring in double figures in three of his last four games including the two most recent in his return from injury, Elliott is now scoring at a season-high 8.2 points per game clip, and the eight rebounds for the junior marks a career-best.
-UAH turned the ball over just five times in the game, representing a new season-low for the team.
