2016-17 Concludes with Road Setback at Union

JACKSON, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team concluded its 2016-17 campaign on Saturday, falling 83-50 on the road at Union. The Chargers finish the year at 5-22 (4-18 Gulf South Conference), while the Bulldogs move into the postseason at 17-11 (12-10 GSC).
 
 Turning Point
-After UAH pushed out to a 26-21 lead near the midway point of the second quarter, Union would outscore the Chargers 10-2 the rest of the period en route to holding a 29-28 lead at the half, and that advantage would quickly balloon in the third quarter as the hosts took control.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Chandler Elder led the team in scoring in the contest as she scored nine, and she also paced the team on the glass with nine rebounds.
-Loren Foster dished out a team-best three assists to go along with seven points and three rebounds.
-Both Brian Gaines and Chelsea Bodiford scored 17 to lead the Bulldogs.
-Union finished the contest shooting 51.6 percent while limiting the Chargers to a 35.3 percent shooting performance, and the Bulldogs outrebounded UAH by a 42-25 margin.

-The Chargers scored seven of the game's first nine points to go up 7-2 by the 6:23 mark of the first quarter, and the guests would own a 13-9 edge going into the second period.
-A 6-0 run near the middle of the second quarter lifted the Chargers to their largest lead of the game at 26-19, but Union then went on the hot stretch to go up by one at the half at 29-28.
-The Bulldogs then controlled the third quarter by outscoring UAH 34-9, and UU wrapped up the game by outpacing the Chargers 20-13 in the fourth.
 
Noteworthy
-Sophomore Baylee Johnson finishes the 2016-17 year as the team's leading scorer as she ended with 11.4 points per game, while Elder also averaged double figures with 10.8 points per contest while leading on the glass with 7.4 boards per game.
