UAH Drops Both Games in Doubleheader at UWF

PENSACOLA, Fla. | The No. 14 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team slipped in both games of the series-opening doubleheader at West Florida by a pair of 4-2 scores on Saturday afternoon at the UWF Softball Complex. UAH slips to 17-8 (7-4 GSC), while UWF improves to 16-8 (6-7 GSC).

Turning Point
- After UAH broke a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the sixth, West Florida proceeded to plate a total of three runs to turn the tables en route to a 3-2 win in the series opener.
 
Inside the Box Score
- After 5.0 shutout innings by UAH starting pitcher Tyler Harrison, the Chargers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth on a RBI single to center by Harrison followed by Jada Hayes scoring on a throwing error after stealing third.
- However, West Florida tagged three earned runs to Harrison in the home half of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead which would stand as the final in the opening contest.
- Harrison's record slid to 5-4 on the year after working 6.0 innings with three runs allowed, three walks and five strikeouts over a 121-pitch performance.
- The Chargers posted four hits in the loss with Kaitlyn Bannister, Harrison, Erin Jewell and Sarah Jordan each recording one hit apiece.
- Bannister and Malone tied for the team lead in walks drawn with a pair each.
 
Noteworthy
- Bannister extended her hitting streak to nine games with her base hit, and she's registered two walks in a game on five occasions this season.
- Malone now has a trio of two-walk performances in 2017.

Turning Point
- With the game tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Argonauts were able to pull ahead with one run in the fifth and another in the sixth to take the second game in the doubleheader 4-2.
 
Inside the Box Score
- UAH played from in front early as Bannister ripped a solo home run to right field to give the Chargers 1-0 lead.
- After a scoreless second by both sides, the hosts scored one run apiece in the bottom of the third and fourth to overtake the lead a 2-1.
- A RBI double by Malone knotted the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth, but the Argonauts forged ahead with two more runs in the fifth and sixth for the 4-2 victory.
- UAH registered a total of seven hits in the loss, paced by a three-hit performance by Harrison.
- Emily Glover took the loss to slip her record to 9-3 on the season, after hurling 5.0 innings with three earned runs allowed, one walk and one strikeout.
 
Noteworthy
- Bannister moved to a 10-game hit streak with a two-hit performance in the loss.
- Harrison's three hits are a season-high for the senior.

- UAH and West Florida will wrap up the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
