Bannister Sets GSC's Career RBI Mark in Sweep

HUNTSVILLE | Kaitlyn Bannister established the Gulf South Conference record for runs batted in for a career, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team swept visiting Tuskegee on Thursday, winning 10-0 and 12-4 with both victories coming in five innings. The Chargers improve to 25-9 on the year, while the Golden Tigers fall to 1-21.

With a double in the first inning of the day's first game, Bannister recorded her 240th career RBI to break the previous mark of 239 which had been set by Valdosta State's Marti Littlefield from 2009-12. Bannister finished the day with four RBI to now own 243 for her career after she registered 200 in her first three seasons in the Blue and White.

The Charger softball program now owns four of the top five marks all-time in the GSC record book in career RBI as Bannister leads a list that includes Melanie Carter (3rd/233), Stephanie Pinto (4th/230), and Mary Kelley (5th/229).

Next Time Out
-After an off day on Friday, the Chargers will turn their attention to the west and rival North Alabama as the team travels to Florence for a three-game set this weekend. Saturday's doubleheader is slated for a 2 p.m. start.

Key Plays
-Bannister's double in the first put the Chargers up 1-0 with an inning in the books, but the hosts would send 11 to the plate in a seven-run second that featured an RBI single from Hayes, a sac fly from Reagan Malone, a two-run jack from Bannister, and two-run double off the bat of Jewell.
-A pair of run-producing singles from Hayes and Long in the fourth gave UAH two more runs and created the 10-0 final.

-Bannister now has 10 home runs on the season, and the senior has now record double-digits in homers in three straight seasons to have 48 for her career.
-The three RBI for Hayes mark a season-high for the sophomore.

UAH 12, Tuskegee 4

Inside the Box Score
-UAH drew a total of 11 walks in the game to tie a program record and both Caroline Burns and Hayes collected a pair of free passes in the game.
-The Chargers also pounded out seven hits with each spot in the lineup reaching first safely on either a hit or a walk in the game.

-UAH also picked up four more steals with Ashley Cornell, Emily Glover, Malone, and Miller all swiping bags.

Key Plays
-After Tuskegee struck first in the top of the first, the Chargers answered back with a five-run bottom half that included run-producing knocks from Bannister, Glover, Miller, and Hayes.
-Four bases-loaded walks and a couple of fielding errors by Tuskegee then made it an 11-1 lead for UAH in the second before Jasmine Snyder had a three-run home run in the top of the third to cut the UAH advantage to 11-4.
-An RBI single off the bat of Long in the bottom frame of the third, however, would put the Chargers back up by eight at 12-4, allowing the game to end early after Doriety retired TU in order in the fourth and fifth.

Noteworthy
-Miller moved into a tie for second on the team in RBI on the season with her pair in the game as she now is level with Harrison and Malone as each have 19.
