Last-Second Stunner Lifts UAH to 7-6 Win

HUNTSVILLE | Adam Zois scored the game-winner with one second left in the game, propelling The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team to a 7-6 road victory over host Davis & Elkins on Friday afternoon. The Chargers improve to 4-6 on the season, while the Senators drop to 2-7.
 
Turning Point
-After the guests had tied the game with just 23 seconds left, the Chargers won the ensuing faceoff, and Daniel Wilson, Jr., then found Adam Zois who promptly fired past the D&E goalie with 1.8 seconds remaining to lift the Chargers to the 7-6 win.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Wilson, Jr., finished the day with a team-best five points as he scored and added three more assists in addition to the one on the Zois strike.
-Scoring a team-high two goals was Kevin Coppinger, while Bryant Baus matched Coppinger with two points as he tallied a goal and an assist.
-UAH's other goals from Luke LeVette and James Cox.
-Jake Fowler continued his strong performance in faceoffs as he went 15-for-17 on the day while also collecting a team-best 11 ground balls.
-The Chargers outshot Davis & Elkins by a 40-30 clip with LeVette firing off 10 to pace the Chargers.
-Michl McNeil earned the win in the cage for the visitors, stopping 12 shots.
 
Inside the Flow
-UAH turned in a fantastic start to the game, with LeVette, Coppinger, Cox, and Wilson, Jr., all scoring in the first quarter to lift UAH in front 4-0 going to the second, but the Senators would score the lone goal of the second to create a 4-1 lead for the guests at the half.
-Shortly after lightning delayed the proceedings early in the third, the Chargers would go back up by a four-goal margin when Baus scored from Wilson, Jr., at the 7:07 mark, but the hosts would score just over 40 seconds later and again with 4:41 left in the frame as the score was 5-3 to start the fourth.
-Coppinger opened the scoring in the fourth with a tally just 32 seconds into the period, but the Senators then scored three straight including the game-tying marker late to set up the last-second heroics from Zois.
 
Noteworthy
-The Chargers have now surpassed last season's win total with their fourth victory of the year, and the team moved past the century mark in goals with 104 on the year compared to 82 a year ago.
-Zois is now the fourth different Chargers on the season to score a game-winner, and the score marks his ninth of the year.
-Coppinger takes over the team lead in goals as he now owns 18 on the season, while LeVette continues to pace the Chargers in points with 31.
-Wilson, Jr., now has points in seven straight for UAH, and he moves into fifth on the team offensively with 17 points from eight goals and nine assists.
 
Next Time Out
-UAH will now turn its attention to Ohio Valley on Saturday. The contest has been moved across the Ohio River to Marietta College with a new start time of 2 p.m. CDT due to unplayable field conditions.
