UAH Rolls to 17-8 Win Over Visiting Chowan Wednesday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team cruised to a 17-8 victory over visiting Chowan on Wednesday afternoon at Charger Park. The Chargers improve to 2-3 on the season, while the Hawks fall to 0-5.
 
Turning Point
-UAH scored the first eight goals of the game and never looked back in the rout.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Kevin Coppinger had his best goal-scoring performance of the season as he scored four times while also adding an assist to finish with a team-high five points.
-Four other Chargers had multi-goal games with Daniel Wilson, Jr., scoring three times while Collin Wilcox, Adam Zois, and Bryant Baus each had a pair.
-Wilson, Jr., also had an assist in the game to finish with four points, while Luke LeVette scored once and assisted on two other goals on his way to registering three points. In addition to Wilcox, Zois, and Baus, James Cox also had a pair of points as he scored and registered a helper.
-Michl McNeil stopped 14 shots in earning the victory in the cage, and he also picked up a team-best six ground balls.
-Strong once more in face-offs was Jake Fowler who won 25 of 29 draws.
-UAH fired off 50 shots compared to 37 for Chowan, and the Chargers also held a 32-22 advantage in shots that were on target.
-UAH was 17-for-18 in clears.
 
Inside the Flow
-Less than a minute into the contest, Baus scored the first of eight straight goals the Chargers would score in the opening quarter en route to holding an 8-2 advantage going into the second.
-Chowan scored three of the four goals in the second with Jack Utrevis scoring a goal while the Chargers were shorthanded for UAH's strike in the period, and the hosts were up 9-5 going into the half.
-UAH then outscored the Hawks 4-3 in the third quarter before dispensing of any further suspense by shutting out the guests 4-0 in the fourth to crate the 17-8 final.
 
Noteworthy
-Coppinger matches his career-high in goals as he also scored four times in a road game at Davis & Elkins on April 3 of last season.
-LeVette maintains his place at the top of the offensive ledger with 21 points on the strength of 10 goals and 11 assists, while both Wilcox and Baus now pace the team with 11 goals on the year.
-McNeil earned his second win of the season in moving to 2-2, and he now has totaled 47 saves on the year.
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will return to action on Sunday when the team takes on Notre Dame de Namur in Davenport, Fla. The contest is slated for a 4 p.m. CST start.
