No. 16 UAH Stumbles on the Road at MC Friday

CLINTON, Miss. | The No. 16 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team dropped the series opener at Mississippi College on Friday night, falling by a 4-0 score. The Chargers slip to 31-12 (17-8 Gulf South Conference), while MC improves to 26-16 (17-8 GSC).

Game Changer
-Tylan Buckley hit a two-out grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning to produce the game's only runs and ultimately give Mississippi College the victory.

Inside the Box Score
-The two teams combined for just 11 hits with the Choctaws holding a slim 6-5 edge in the contest.
-Tyler Harrison led UAH offensively as she went 2-for-3 at the plate, and the other hits for the Chargers came from Kaitlyn Bannister, Sarah Jordan, and Erin Jewell.
-Harrison was charged with the loss in the circle for UAH, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up three hits, walking four, and striking out three.
-Buckley finished the contest as the lone MC player to have a multi-hit game as she went 2-for-3.
-Kristen Gardner went the distance for the hosts, picking up the win as she scattered the five hits while striking out one.

Key Plays
-Neither team was able to do much offensively until the third when Harrison led off the inning with a single before moving to second on a sac bunt from Shannon Long and remaining there after an infield single from Jordan, but Gardner would retire the next two to keep the game scoreless.
-In the bottom of the fifth, Harrison retired the first MC batter before issuing a pair of walks and allowing an infield single, and the senior would then strike out the next batter before surrendering the grand slam on the first pitch of the at-bat for Buckley.
-The first two batters reached for UAH in the seventh, but a double play and a fly out would end the comeback bid.

Noteworthy
-UAH moves to 1-6 on the season when issuing three or more free passes compared to a 30-6 record when allowing two or fewer walks.
-Harrison's batting average climbs to .306 on the season which is the highest for her since she was hitting .313 after the West Florida series on March 12.

Next Time Out
-The two teams will wrap up the series on Saturday with a doubleheader that is slated for a noon start.
